Solar Transit for Nov 5th - 10th (EST)
Gate 1: Gate of Self Expression
The current solar transit - here we go!
Apologies for the delay, as you saw in my previous post/newsletter, I was working on a building out a course!
How was Gate 44 for you? We had a major election that took the world’s attention.
We had the fear of the past repeating itself in the solar transit in gate 44! I’m sure many of us were afraid of the past repeating itself with Trump being elected again! 🤦🏻♀️
So, what is the energy of Gate 1?
This is the most ‘yang’ (masculine) gate in the bodygraph that is active, creative and outwardly expressed. (That is why all of the hexagram lines are the yang solid lines; not split yin lines).
This energy provides a pressure to create for the sake of making a difference in the world, not for gaining recognition.
If you have this gate defined, the more you follow your unique way of creating, you will receive recognition or be noticed.
This energy waxes and wanes, emerging and disappearing unpredictably. Therefore, your creativity works the same way, you cannot force it to emerge. You must simply flow with it ~~~~~~~
If you have this gate defined, you have the ability to bring freshness, light and inspiration to groups you are involved in, or your melancholic feelings can suck the light right out of a group and you become unnoticeable.
This shadow side of this energy is exemplified in our society by how so many great artists made some of their most impactful art out of a dark or sad place. Mary J. Blige, Adele, Mozart, Leonard Cohen, and so many more. There’s a really interesting excerpt from a book with some scientific research done on the correlation between sadness and creativity by Susain Cain. Here’s an excerpt below:
“In another intriguing study, Columbia Business School professor Modupe Akinola gathered a collection of students and measured their blood for DHEAS, a hormone that helps protect against depression by suppressing the effects of stress hormones such as cortisol. Then she asked the students to speak to an audience about their dream jobs. Unbeknownst to her subjects, she arranged for some of these talks to be greeted supportively, with smiles and nods, and others with frowns and head shaking.
After the talk, she asked the students how they were feeling; unsurprisingly, those with receptive audiences were in a better mood than the ones who thought they’d bombed. But she also asked the students to make a collage, which professional artists later rated for creativity. The students who faced disapproving audiences created better collages than the ones who were smiled upon. And those who received negative audience feedback and had low levels of DHEAS—that is, the students who were both emotionally vulnerable and suffered rejection from the audience—made the best collages of all.
Other studies have found that sad moods tend to sharpen our attention: They make us more focused and detail oriented; they improve our memories, correct our cognitive biases. For example, University of New South Wales psychology professor Joseph Forgas found that people are better able to recall items they’ve seen in a store on cloudy days compared to sunny ones, and that people in a bad mood (after being asked to focus on sad memories) tend to have better eyewitness memories of a car accident than those who’d been thinking of happy times….

New to Human Design?
See if you have this gate in your design by pulling your own chart.
Low expression / shadow of this gate:
You may feel sad that you’re not sure what your main contribution to the world is. You may wake up in the middle of the night if you feel troubled about what to do with your life.
You may also feel melancholic or depressive that you want to change the world in a huge way but you don’t know how to.
It is important that when these feelings come up (and they likely will when you have this gate defined), you use this energy to spend some time alone, letting this sadness pass through you with care. This is the process that will fuel your creativity.
A fear of failing in your life purpose might come up for you.
Sometimes you may feel stunted to freely live authentically as your full, multi-faceted self because of society or other people’s judgement and social norms.
A desire for recognition, or for influence by using your creativity is the low expression of this gate.
These could be an over-ambition or an impatience that also doesn’t allow the creativity to flow.
If you are using your creativity for obligation, a job or exchange of some sort that drains your joy, this could block you from fulfilling your life purpose.
The pressure you might experience of fulfilling your life purpose might overwhelm you. Remember that you can utilise this pressure to drive you forward.
In the Gene Keys system, the repressive shadow frequency is: Depression - staying stuck in melancholy rather than using that as fuel for your creative contribution.
The reactive shadow frequency is: Frenetic - you try to escape the sadness, and fill your life with busyness and people. You may experience physical illness because you're moving in the opposite direction of the chemistry of your body.
P.S. I wrote a note about the low expression or not-self and how to work with it. It's an important distinction and nuance to understand about the low expression.
High expression of this gate:
During this transit, you may experience a pressure to do something big or be someone in your life.
The right timing is important in order to have the impact you desire to impact the world. Follow your Strategy & Authority to identify the right timing, and trust in the power of your own uniqueness.
You may not necessarily feel artistic, but you may feel like living life in a creative way or with a creative energy.
This is the energy of having a pressure to express your creative, weird self, not a pressure to be the best or to showing off to others.
Get creative! Be uniquely you!
If you only have gate 1 defined and not gate 8, you aren’t designed to showcase your work out for others to see. Other people can do this for you.
In the Gene Keys system, the Gift frequency is: Freshness. This energy has its opportunity to truly flourish in smaller, more intimate group settings.
Every time an individual moves cleanly through their low frequency chemical process, they reenact this creation myth - out of the darkness suddenly light emerges - and as if by magic, the low energy field switches and is experienced as joy. This joy comes as unexpectedly as the sadness does, but with the joy also comes the need to express it, and especially to express it through the your voice or your art…
We are designed to overcome the shadow states inside us so that our true genius can emerge and we can add our spirit to the world. It is through individual creativity that all diseases and negative patterns will eventually leave this planet. This is the true meaning of Freshness - to be a clear vessel for the creative process so that evolution can move through you and find its way towards a permanent state of eventual love, beauty and unity.
- Richard Rudd, The Gene Keys
The Siddhi frequency is: Beauty. Beauty is about oneness, and it cannot be described, felt, sensed, seen, heard, tasted or smelled. It is beyond our senses, if we observe it, then it is only a fragment of what we as humans can pick up on.
Systems change lens:
How fitting that this energy about self expression and the big contributions we make to society was around the presidential election time.
Elections remind us that it isn’t solely about the contributions that a president or any elected official makes to society, it’s also about the contributions that electors, voters and residents make.
We must remember that.
We as non-elected officials, have a duty as well, to take care of our communities, to hold each other accountable, to contribute to them and to show up.
This is also a reminder that our contributions don't have to look like contributions of the past. Our contributions can look like things the world has never seen before.
Our contributions are most impactful when they are coming from a truly authentic place.
Some famous people who have Gate 1 in their most prominent placement include: Dorothy Day, Gordon Ramsey, Sza, Minnie Riperton, and Hermann Rorschach.
Emi’s Personal Reflection:
I do not have this gate defined but I have been feeling this vibrational frequency of freshness, with my creation of my course on informing. It’s been such a creative process building it to my standards and authenticity. It’s been wonderful.
Reflection prompts for you:
How do I work with my creativity when I’m in a low mood?
Am I forcing my creativity to come up? Do I sit in front of a computer or canvas, waiting or forcing my creativity to come flowing through?
Do I resonate with the depression or frenetic energy of the shadow of this gate?
Am I feeling the sense that I am contributing to society or to my team at work, community or family?
Do I feel more of my creativity from my joy or from my happiness and freshness?
Do I know how to sit in my low moods and let those pass through me, in aloneness, with gentle care, so that I can process it and move into joyful creativity?
